Text and images by Susan Johanknecht, printed letterpress with woven strip binding. Vinyl and polycarbonate covers and sheets, chemise and plexi slipcase. This sequal to Johanknecht’s Hermetic Waste, this book is a response to the storage of nuclear waste in plastics. Poetic texts sit inside the imagery, functioning as an integrated caption. They describe processes by which toxic material enters into the environment. The back of each page lists hazardous wastes. Claire Van Vliet is widely recognized as a master printmaker and has won numerous awards, including election to the National Academy, two Honorary Doctorates of Fine Arts and the prestigious MacArthur Prize Fellowship. She founded the Janus Press in 1955 and has published over one hundred books with original artwork of her own and other artists. |
